Shorelines Literary Magazine, sponsored through Longview Community College in Lee's Summit, Missouri, is proud to announce its online presence.
Shorelines has been in print for for more than 50 years. It began in 1968 and belonged to MCC Junior College in Kansas City, Missouri before branching off to Longview and becoming student run.
When Shorelines first arose, it was known by another name, Hwaet, which can be traced back to Beowulf and commonly translated as Listen. In the move from MCC Junior College, Shorelines became Shorelines due to the large manmade lake on which Longview sits.
Shorelines is run by students, read in pre-production by students, staff, and faculty, and managed by a faculty sponsor. Everyone is welcome to submit to the magazine, which has a circulation of more than 6,000.
It is a magazine that shows greatness. Shorelines has received the prestigious Crystal Field Award, and many of its contributors have gone on to publish books and become acclaimed writers and editors.
Shorelines sponsors two yearly contests, open to students of Longview and MCC only. Last year's poetry and creative writing judge was the Kansas Poet-Laureate.
